Life in Riyadh

Riyadh is the capital and largest city in Saudi Arabia with a population of 5.7 million. It is situated in the center of the Arabian Peninsula on a large plateau. One of the things that surprise newcomers to Riyadh is the amount of English that exists. Most of the people you will come in contact with will speak some English. Road signs and building names are in English and food items in our expansive grocery stores are in English. There are a number of modern malls containing familiar stores that cater to your every shopping need.
Most of the expat population live on compounds situated throughout Riyadh. Compounds are secure locations where your safety and security are assured. Most teachers who are hired by MLS live in one of the newest compounds in Riyadh and as such, has a selection of top notch amenities including a huge recreation center containing an indoor soccer field, running track, pool, gymnasium, squash, tennis, and badminton courts and offers numerous classes. The commercial building has a grocery store as well as other retail stores, a theatre and a bowling alley. In addition, there are two outdoor pools, a hotel, and a restaurant.
