Starting school is an important transition, not only for young children, but for their families too. To support this journey, MLS recently welcomed new Early Years parents, from Toddler through KG2, for a session focused on navigating the first weeks of school.
While children across Early Years are at different developmental stages, parents often experience many of the same questions and concerns: separation at drop-off, changes in routines, big emotions, and wondering whether their child is adjusting well.
During the session, families explored practical strategies to support drop-off, routines, transitions, connection, and emotional regulation, both at school and at home. An important message throughout the conversation was that adjustment is not always linear. Some days may feel easier than others, and building a sense of safety and connection provides an essential foundation as young children become comfortable in their new environment.
Parents also had the opportunity to share their experiences, ask questions, and hear from other families navigating similar situations. These conversations helped reinforce that many of the challenges families experience during this period can be a natural part of transitioning into school.
The session also reflected an important part of our approach at MLS: children benefit most when home and school work in partnership. By sharing knowledge, maintaining open communication, and providing families with practical tools, we can work together to support each child’s wellbeing and development.
We thank all the parents who joined us and contributed so openly to the conversation. As our Early Years families continue this journey, we look forward to creating more opportunities to connect, learn, and grow together.
