When Learning Meets the Real World
MLS was delighted to welcome Dr. Cynthia Mosher from Alfaisal University Simulation for a hands-on learning experience with students from Grades 6 and 9–12.
During the session, Dr. Cynthia explored the functions and processes of the circulatory system, connecting concepts students encounter in the classroom with authentic medical knowledge and real-world applications.
A highlight of the experience was a hands-on CPR preparation activity using a medical training mannequin. Learners had the opportunity to move beyond studying how the circulatory system works and explore how an understanding of the human body can be applied in real-life situations.
For our Grade 6 learners, the experience connected directly with their PYP Unit of Inquiry on Body Systems, strengthening conceptual understanding through inquiry, questioning, and experiential learning. For our older students, the session provided another opportunity to engage with scientific concepts through the perspective of a professional in the field.
Throughout the session, learners asked questions, collaborated, and actively applied their knowledge, demonstrating the value of creating connections between academic learning and the world beyond the classroom.
Experiences like these remind us that some of the most meaningful learning happens when inquiry meets experience and the classroom meets the real world.
